Treat Acne Information

I have oily, acne-prone sensitive skin. In November 2009, my acne went from mild to terrible. The scarring was even worse. In December 2009, I decided to view my face the same way I view my hair: obsessively.

In this video, I show how I make an olive oil mix that I use as a nightly moisturizer and to exfoliate my skin. I have been using this method for one year — see the results at the end of the video. (The parts where I show how to make the moisturizer and exfoliate skin were shot in May 2010.)

Summer 2010 update:
*I started using grapeseed oil. I like it because it feels silky and seems to absorb a little better than the olive oil.

*In my most recent batch, I added 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. I like it!

EVOO Moisturizer Recipe
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) or grapeseed oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1-2 drops lavender essential oil
1-2 drops rosewood essential oil
1-2 drops tea tree essential oil (optional)

Mix ingredients and pour into a squeeze bottle. (I bought my bottle from the travel/sample section in Wal-Mart.)

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
* Unless using grapeseed oil, the moisturizer doesn’t have to be refrigerated.
* Don’t keep in bathroom (humidity).
* Respect the essential oils. Too much can damage your skin. Err on the side of using too little rather than using too much.
* Make batches in small amounts to keep blends fresh.
* Make sure your hands are clean before touching face.
* If you use too much, the EVOO moisturizer will eventually ooze into your eyes. Not a good feeling! Use it sparingly.
* Skin will tan FAST in the sun! Be careful.

Ambi Even and Clear Skin Cream ($7 at CVS)
(In early April 2010, I began taking biotin and MSM — sulfur– for my hair. We’ll see if it helps my skin!)

**Don’t exfoliate skin if you have a lot of blemishes or very sensitive skin.**
