Acne is a very common disease of the skin that is caused by the inflammation of the sebaceous glands and the hair follicles. The lesions are mainly found on the skin of the face, neck, chest and shoulders. Nearly six out of ten people, aged between 12 and 24 years suffer from acne. Usually this disease is a major cause of social embarrassment, as it occurs at an age when children begin to become very sensitive about their physical appearance.

Causes of Acne:

Hormones play a key role in the appearance of the disorder. It seems that there is an increased secretion of androgens in acne sufferers and it is a known fact that androgens stimulate the production of sebum by the sebaceous glands. This correlation between hormonal changes and the onset of this condition is proved by the fact that the problem appears mainly during adolescence, a phase of life when the person goes through a complete mental and physical transformation. The overproduction of sebum (seborrhea) is of great importance, since sebum contains comedogenic substances (fatty acids) capable of causing the appearance of pimples.

Under normal conditions, the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands acts as a shield against bacteria and parasites in general. In those predisposed to acne however, the sebaceous glands show an increased activity that can cause the appearance of this skin disease.

There are also indications that psychological factors may cause this disorder. Adolescence is a period characterized by strong emotions. These emotions may alter the balance of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal cortex, causing the release of androgen hormones.

There is reason to believe that acne can be caused by poor nutrition or chronic constipation. The excessive intake of starches, sugars, fried foods and fats and the consumption of tea, coffee, tobacco and alcohol may also trigger this condition. As far as constipation is concerned, it seems that if the intestines do not function properly, blood circulation becomes overloaded with toxic substances that may aggravate this problem.

Natural remedies for acne:

* Aloe Vera: it has been used to treat burns for a long time and is also an excellent natural remedy for pimples. Just apply the aloe vera gel on the affected areas of the skin.
* Vitamins: vitamin A and niacin are used successfully to treat pimples. Take 100mg of niacin or 50,000 units of vitamin A, three times a day.
* Zinc: it is a very effective remedy to combat acne, even the severe cases. You can take therapeutic doses of 50mg three times daily for one month, and then reduce the dosage to 25mg.
* Garlic: rub raw garlic on pimples several times a day. The external use of garlic helps to clean the skin from pimples and blackheads. Even ingesting three cloves of raw garlic daily can help purify the blood and eliminate pimples.

Here are some great natural acne treatments for dry skin… First drink more water. You should be drinking 50% of your body weight in ounces of spring or purified water each day. You should be drinking even more water when it’s a warm climate and/or exercising. Next stop using mainstream name brand acne face washes and acne treatment products. You want to stay away from products with these ingredients as well as other ingredients that are foreign to the body. When you put these things on your skin they get into your pores and blood which causes disruptions and confusion in your body. Your body tries to attack and detox them because they are foreign to the body and this may cause more breakouts. Also, when you use many different skin care and cosmetic products that contain these ingredients you could be causing more cosmetic acne without even knowing it.

This is the second video in the “holistic acne treatments” video series. In this video I talk about how both physical and mental stress slow the healing process and cause the adrenal glands to produce more hormones which make your skin become more oily. Emotional stress is another thing that weighs on the heart (literally, interesting huh?) and causes the body to slow down and slow the healing process as well.
